Q&A: Is Clarity Required?

May 6, 2016 | 27 Comments »

How Much Clarity Is Required to Manifest What You WantHere’s a question from a fellow creator who wants to know how much clarity is required to create what you want:

I’ve heard conflicting things about what it takes to manifest what you want.

Some law of attraction teachers say you must first be crystal clear about what you want before you can manifest it.

Others say that the Universe already knows what you want and that all you have to do is become a match to it by getting happy now.

In your experience, do you find it necessary that someone be clear about what they want? (And if so, how much detail is required?)

Or does it also work if they just trust that something good will come even when they don’t necessarily know what that specifically is?

This one seemed worth tapping the group collective wisdom for, so what say you, wise ones … how much do you have to know about what you want in order to successfully manifest it?

Thanks in advance for sharing your insights and experience!

  1. Elle says:

Hmmmm, good question! We often ask this. I do not think ones needs to be crystal clear on what one wants for it to manifest. On the contrary, wouldn’t you say contrast helps a lot in this clarification on what is wanted and not? So, be glad for the contrast, when experiencing it, to further tweak what you want.

An idea of what is wanted is needed and the Universe does not stray too much from that. Do not forget that your reality can change with your focus and wanting of other things, different from the original. Also, the Universe delivers something better, a result of your vibration, not so much what is crystal clear in your mind. I think it is mostly the essence of what is wanted, rather than the image, per se, if this is what is meant in the question.

I would put feeling good and feeling as it you have it/it is a done deal are more important than being crystal clear on what is wanted, at least in my experience. The Universe does deliver what you put out there, so put your best out there because you feel it. I hope this makes some sense. 🙂

    • Jeannette says:

How does that quote go, Elle … “If you don’t know where you’re going, how do you expect to get there?” Something like that.

I get that intellectually. I really do.

But it SO resonates with me when Abe says that all our desires are registered “in the vortex” and that we don’t have to keep track of them in order for them to come to fruition. Our only job is alignment. And if we can align by simply feeling good (rather than needing to envision a particular desired outcome) then that should be enough, right?

I agree that feeling good is more important than being crystal clear on the details of a desire. I was wondering if being clear on the details would enhance the alignment, but then I thought more often it seems it might create a sort of attachment that kinks up the process.

But that’s one reason why I thought I gotta get all your answers on this one, because I can understand both sides of the “argument.” 🙂

      • Shimigirl says:

I feel observing and noticing that which is pleasing go getting the gratitude off the scale letting the universe just feel your vortex in the swirl and then I really like as an adjunct, “Come at me universe
What could be better than this?”

  2. Jen C. says:

This is so cool! My experience and intuition tell me that we do make the many requests crystal clear and then amend them as we look to stuff we like and the contrast. So, I think it’s best to just feel happy on the way and line up with certain feelings about your desire–usually relief, comfort, ease, satisfaction gets you far.

You know it’s all about how you feel. So, it visualizing your desires feels great, then do it. If not, there really is no “need” to keep going over what you want. If anything, I think it’s fun to realize at all times that you are on the way to all you desire, so you might as well have fun. And as the stuff comes in, instead of taking score, just applaud yourself because you created it, you recreated you!! And it all feels so amazing to feel the fullness of who you really are.

If you can keep up the feeling great part, stuff manifests pretty quickly. But it’s always the feelings on the way and about where you want to be that matter.

    • Jeannette says:

Love this, Jen: “… just feel happy on the way and line up with certain feelings about your desire–usually relief, comfort, ease, satisfaction gets you far.”

And in a way, that sort of also satisfies the other argument that we need to be clear if we expect to get there … because we’re being clear that feeling good is what we want! Right? Meaning, maybe it’s not one or the other, but just a matter of what you’re getting clear about. Maybe.

I’m with you that feeling great allows for lots of manifestational progress! Thanks for chiming in on this one, Jen. 🙂

  3. Susan Dickson says:

Speaking for myself I quite often find that being crystal clear and very specific about what I want can throw a spanner in the works.
When I am that clear about my desire I find I notice more often than not that I don’t have it yet.
When I’m more general about my desire I feel easier about it and my resistance is much less. I’m much less likely to notice that it hasn’t manifested yet.
Having said that, the Universe knows exactly what I want anyways and I usually find that I get exactly what I’ve asked for wether I’ve been specific or not.
Just have fun whatever way works for you.
Fun, that’s the magic word ????

    • Jeannette says:

Ok, that has happened to me, too, Susan!! (Being crystal clear isn’t always the most helpful thing.)

You’re making a lot of sense about the power of a more “general” knowing. And I love your suggestion to go with whatever works for you. Very nice input on this one – thank you!!

  4. anonymous says:

Great question and great responses!! Personally, I feel it depends on what feels best TO YOU. 🙂 For some people, going general feels best, for others being crystal clear does!
Whatever makes you happiest and feels most true in your heart!
I like to tell myself, when I want something, that it’s on it’s way. It’s fun to know its coming, and it’s fun to prepare and enjoy the meantime!
As the other helpful commenters have suggested, the most important thing is feeling now the way you will when your desire has physically manifested.
If focusing specifically on your desire makes you feel awesome, then do it all you can!
If focusing on something else unrelated does, focus on that whenever you can!

    • Jeannette says:

Since we know the feeling is what matters most, I have to say you’ve probably nailed it on the head there, Anonymous. (That what works best is whatever feels best.)

Meaning it’s a potentially different answer for everyone.

I knew you guys would have smart things to offer on this one – thank you! 🙂

      • anonymous says:

Jeannette I found this out the hard way! After hearing from so many law of attraction experts to go general, I forced myself to do that, even when it felt bad. Going specific on certain desires feels so much better! I didn’t allow myself to do this though until I discarded some very well-meaning advice. It just goes to show that it really comes down to following what feels true for you, what feels best for you. No one else knows you as well as you know yourself.

  5. Rachel Woods says:

Having a general idea or direction works for me. If I get too specific, my stress rises and need to create takes over instead of just allowing. Perfect timing for this discussion as I just realized I’ve been way too specific on my latest goal!!

  6. Jeff N. says:

I personally feel as if it’s OK to get super duper clear on what exactly it is that we want. However, this is where the Law of Detachment really needs to come into play.

The concept of trusting and having faith in divine timing, that Universe will deliver to us EXACTLY what we want… or something even BETTER than what we can, in this moment, comprehend regarding our most fervent desires. And holding faith that, since there’s no happy ending without a happy journey, focusing on our feel-good NOW, on appreciating contrast (as best as we can… contrast can be so tough), and on choosing to savor this journey.

Finally, it’s about keeping our desires, and the details of which we love to get clear about, in a long-game perspective. “Wanting” and “desiring” are part and parcel of the experience in which we partake in this time-space reality. As soon as we get that one thing, guess what? We will naturally desire something more, something beyond. And so it goes on…

We will never get “there,” “there” being that place where “YES! No more desiring! We have everything we want!” Umm… no.

But knowing this, that desire is just an inherent component of our experience, actually gives us the breathing room to make peace with our now, trust that ALL IS WELL, that the contrast is serving us (no matter how prickly it may get), and that that tremendous, delicious feeling of savoring our desires is actually the manifestation that we want!

That feeling of joy when we think about the money, the relationship, the improved health… that joy is what we came for!

And one of these days, that joy will carry us to being a match to that $$$ / rltsp / health that launched us on this journey to begin with 🙂

    • anonymous says:

I love what you wrote Jeff, about that feeling of joy and how it carries us to what we’re wanting. This is so true! And it just feels good to feel good 🙂

    • Elle says:

I love what you’ve said here Jeff: “there’s no happy ending without a happy journey, focusing on our feel-good NOW, on appreciating contrast …” Yup, this is basically it in a nutshell. So it’s best to feel good anyway and the universe will deliver to you and it will be even better that what you imagined.

  7. Laura Hansen says:

Great question and great responses. It is the underlying feeling of what I want. Take abundance for example, abundance is already within you. It is your birthright. So if you are focusing on creating abundance, you might be focusing on the lack of it. When you expand yourself out into your infinite self and then feel into that. Then you will know that you are already abundant. When you set an intention for something, feel what it feels like to already have it. Followed by “this or something better” I have also found muscle testing to be helpful. Let’s say you are wanting $10,000 a month in income. Muscle test to see if you test strong for a $10,000 a month and when your vibration matches it has to show up.

  8. ada says:

Good question and awesome replies ..Thank you

I have question too. So I have heard that we should let go once we imagine and be “hootless” but some say we have to repeatedly imagine. So what is it? Do we let go or consistently practice.
For example Neville Goddard says every night imagining until the desire manifests whereas I have heard conflicting suggestions.

    • Elle says:

      Hi Ada.

Letting go is a pre-requisite in manifestation. I mean, not caring so much about stuff and enjoying your journey on the way are the core of practice. Of course, you need to go in the direction of your desire, but be relaxed about it and know it will happen no matter the bends and bumps in the road or what anyone else says or thinks.

Imagining is a permission slip, as bashar says, to feeling good and helps the manifestation process along. I’ve read accounts of people imagining their exes that lead to a telephone call from them or a chance meeting with them face to face. They were not expecting that to happen and were completely unattached and hootless. So, keeping the imaginings alive is good.

Also, keeping the channel open with the universe is important as well. So, praying incessantly is key also. What I mean by this is open and constant communication with the Universe. When this is practiced, contrast hardly even show up as much if at all! I know people appreciate contrast, learn from it and get a lot out of it, but they can bypass it for a smoother ride. This is being in spirit. But, if you want to be more human then embrace it. I just think sometimes enough is enough and let’s get on with the show already.

  9. Teri stratford says:

My feeling is both can work actually. For me there are times when I want to make my list, like my MAN LIST but then set it aside and turn it over. And in turning it over I always say “what ever is best for me” because I don’t always know what is best, not having the big picture. But other times I am just FEELING how it feels to have that guy with me in my world and that is not exactly specific like the MAN LIST. I also think setting an intention to have the best possible guy show up for where I’m at can be enough when you allow And trust Source to deliver. Also, in playing the financial manifesting game, you can say I want a million dollars but leave it up to Source to organize the details of how that comes. So for me it’s a bit of both methodologies. I don’t think you have to be stuck in an either/or situation. That feels limiting and Source is anything but limiting!!!

  10. Nancy says:

    Good Morning collective group,

In my experience, first you must look at your inner joys, in the past, when you followed this path in your life it made you happy, when and why does your spirit sing. This is the flow of your Being connecting to the universe. Now let’s say you want a specific thing or person. When we chose our own path, and specifically say what we want, we may get it but it may not be a good thing, or we may not get it. When we spend time to explain why we want a specific thing or someone, and say to the universe “But I trust you to provide what IS best” the outcome is more of a flow between you and the universe. Be specific why you want something ,what it means to you, and be open to unforeseen gifts that the universe delivers to you. Note: sometimes we have to loose in order to win.

  11. Mindy says:

In my experience it’s when I’m totally detached from the outcome and giving it very little attention, is when things come easily and effortlessly. It’s when I’m totally attached to the outcome that things seem to come with less ease or at all.

Clarity is important, but I’m finding my intention or vibe carries a lot more weight.

    • Elle says:

Exactly. This is what I find as well. Not being attached is for our own good, actually allowing it to happen, and I mean something better than I’ve ever imagined. The best manifestations came to me when I had no idea really about the future but I just took steps forward in a certain direction, allowed, was open to the signs that came to me and viola, manifestation, better then what I could come up with.

  12. I think where some folks might go awry with being super clear is with that level of detail they might start to stray too much into the “how” aspect. Also like others mentioned – it’s hard to let it go/completely detach after spending that much mental effort to hone in on all those details.

But ultimately I think it just depends on the person and even what they’re trying to manifest. We’re all so different to how we process things, which includes manifesting.

  13. Lawrence says:

Once you’re clear on what you do NOT want, you’ll have some ideas about what you DO want, and I would say that’s enough to do the trick.

On the other hand, if you feel joyful right here right now, you’ll automatically attract more of what makes you joyful, whatever that is.

So relax & enjoy the journey 🙂

  14. Cas says:

Than here your question: How much clarity is required to create what you want.

Everything we assume = think, feel and vibrate, we will manifest. So, if you want to pretend, that you create things and get what you don’t want, I advise everyone to know exactly what you want. It will help you to focus your thoughts, feelings and your vibes.

Enjoy your journey and expect the best.

This post is helpful. I very much look forward to manifesting, and am in the process of finetuning “what i say to myself “, and “letting go”.

Those two phrases are in quotes because they have continually reappeared in my life (through others). “How can INTENTION and DETACHMENT coexist?,” i ask.

Life is teaching me the disastrous brick wall of ATTACHMENT, and the upheaval caused by holding a desire too closely.

Inner trust is key to living an empowered life. Accepting UNCERTAINTY provides grounding through the vicissitudes of life, as uncertainty doesn’t mean instabilty.

Things of the spirit are often opposite:
    … little things, big impact…
… maturing, yet have childllke faith…,
… and in the case with this post, SPECIFICS CAN CLOUD THE VISION.
