When Michele Woodward shared that Pam‘s green candle prosperity tip got her an $11,000 windfall within 24 hours, she had my attention.

I’m all about easy ways to let money in, and this sounded perfect.

Apparently it derives from a Native American tradition: the process is to light a green candle on any calendar day with an “8″ in it. Attracts abundance and prosperity. (Supposedly.)

So the next “8″ day that rolled around, I had a brand new green candle burning.

And while it smelled great (“lotus bamboo” – yummy!), there were no obvious cash windfalls on the heels of it.

Maybe my candle just needed a little longer to get warmed up, I thought.

We fired up the flames on the next “8″ day. Still no out of the ordinary money.

Later I heard Michele say you’re supposed to set an intention as you light it.

Duh. That makes sense.

But even after setting my intention while lighting it on the next eight day – and this time I lit two candles (one was a darker green in case my hue was off) – still nada.

I began to look at my candle suspiciously.

Maybe it didn’t know the Native American tradition.

Maybe it needed to hang out with other successful green candles to catch on. Maybe I needed to let it burn longer. Or maybe not so long …

… or maybe, as Nancy Barry-Jansson suggested on the GVU watercooler call today, I was falling prey to the watched pot syndrome.

Everyone knows that syndrome, right? That the watched pot never boils.

After all, don’t all our best manifesting stories come from times when we were just goofing off with something, playing around with a new idea, and not really paying too much attention to it?

When we forget about it, and don’t remember it till we’re already looking at the physical manifestation of it – that’s when the stuff happens most magically.

That’s how it worked with my first pray rain journal entry: a personal miracle manifested within hours.

And the first time I wrote out a page of “I am worthy” affirmations I had spectactular results the next morning.

And the first time I scripted, before 48 hours lapsed the very “impossible” thing I’d spoken about had happened. (That’s one of my favorite stories from Adventures in Manifesting.)

But the next time I picked up each of these manifesting techniques, I didn’t do it with the same lightness and fooling around that I had initially. Now that I knew they worked, I expected big things to happen. And I looked out for those results with an eagle eye.

I think that “eagle eye” sometimes serves as a sort of unmagic wand. Where it keeps the very thing we want from flowing in.

Because watched pots never boil.

Specifically, the Watched Pot Syndrome states that:

When one is anxiously focused on an anticipated result, that specific result is suspended indefinitely in time until the very moment one looks away.

(I made that up, but you already knew it, right?)

This phenomenon is observed most often with important incoming emails, red lights turning green, and phone calls from cute boys.

It’s why my dad walks away from his fishing pole or lights up a cigarette to get a bite on the pole.

It’s why the first thing I used to do after sending out a newsletter was take the dogs on a walk, because if I stayed glued to the computer to see how it was received, no one would write. (And I mean no one.) If I left the computer, especially to engage in something fun, I was deluged with positive responses.

So the green candle big money windfall might just be waiting for me to stop looking for it.

But by now the green candle is sort of ticking me off – especially when Patty told me she’s had lots of clients report great results with it.

My opportunity here is to soften the eyes, lighten the energy, have more fun with it – and not take it so personally when Master Manifester Jeannette Maw doesn’t get the results she thinks she should be.

Can anyone else relate?

Clients and Good Vibe U members have heard this story, but it was a good reminder of how ridiculous it is to rely on action to get what we want. So I’m telling it one more time.

(Then I’m done talking about it, because this is not the story I’d like a repeat of.)

Backstory: When you’ve got a lot of animals in the house, it’s crucial to keep up on maintenance if you don’t want it to smell like a farm or a zoo. (No offense to farms or zoos.) So if I sound neurotic, it’s only because I have a zillion animals (as my boyrfriend says) and a nice house.

So when pit bull Joe left a big doo-doo on my favorite rug, I was not happy.

After all, he’s an adult and he’s supposed to be house-trained! He’s old enough to know to take advantage of a potty break, and certainly old enough to hold it for an hour until someone gets home!

Ridiculous! (In a very wrong way.)

Anyway, it was not easy cleanup, so it felt like time to call in the professional.

Ned at Abacus Cleaners knows the routine well (he’s been my guy for over a decade) and popped over to do his magic on all the carpets and rugs.

Before 24 hours had passed, Joe did it AGAIN.

He left another doo-doo on the same rug, in the same spot, and just as hard to clean up. (You fellow dog owners know what I’m talking about, right?)

This shouldn’t even happen once a year, and here it was happening twice in 24 hours?!

I was … not happy, to put it mildly.

After I fumed about it, I realized Joe practically had to go on the rug again because I was flowing such huge resistance about it.

I mean, pretend you’re Universe and all you hear from Jeannette is “blankety blank poop on the blankety blank rug from blankety blank dog.” If you’re Universe, you gotta figure out how to get more poop on the rug.

The poor dog didn’t have a chance with the vibe I was flowing: HUGE resistance to poop on my floor.

That was the story I told the client who really really didn’t want to experience another breakup, and the other client who really really didn’t want to have to travel for work (she wants to stay local so she can get a DOG, believe it or not!), and the other one who really really didn’t want to go broke.

Yeah, let me tell you how that works out …

… it doesn’t.

The resistance is a magnet for it.

We all know this. I’ve written about it before and probably will again. Because until we get it figured out, the reminders keep coming.

So our opportunity is to make peace with doo-doo on rugs. And breakups, and going broke, and jobs that suck.

Not because we give up wanting it to be different, or thinking it could be different – but because as long as we need it to be different it can’t be.

And all the action in the world I can think of to take cannot override my vibe of resistance.

But seriously …

Peace with poop? Really?

Yeah, really. Unless I want more.

That’s my homework this week.

What’s yours?

Although I’m not exactly a connoiseur of national news, last year’s Hudson River plane landing had my rapt attention.

Not just because it had a happy ending, but also because it seemed to defy all odds to qualify as an outstanding real life miracle.

I wasn’t alone in enjoying coverage of the event, as google reveals over 6 million hits for “Hudson plane.”

Recently, an Abraham workshop participant asked the question about how many people had to be aligned in order to allow that particular miracle to unfold.

Abraham’s answer is why I’m writing about this topic today.

While the guy asking the question viewed the Hudson River event as if it were a miracle of alignment that the pilot was able to land the jetliner without suffering any casualties, Abraham offered an alternate perspective:

Yes, this pilot managed to land in the river without sacrificing any lives. But this same pilot also managed to rendezvous with a flock of birds that required the emergency landing in the first place.

Abraham said this pilot’s extensive training for flight emergencies made him an excellent match for experiencing a flight emergency.

While we celebrate his ability to have managed it extremely well, it might be worth noting that a pilot who doesn’t attract emergencies might be something to celebrate, too.

Yes, I get it. Training for trouble makes us more likely to attract trouble. And is trouble what we really want?

But it was such a cool story! How boring would life be if everything always went perfectly?!

And that’s exactly what Abraham shared at the end of the conversation about the perils of training for trouble – we do like our dramas.

Don’t we?

Abraham added that in our culture it’s rare we’re not being warned or trained for some sort of trouble somewhere along the line, but that’s our opportunity as deliberate creators – to choose consciously what we’re attracting into our lives.

Sometimes maybe close calls are exciting, and sometimes maybe they’re worth skipping altogether.

What do you guys think? If you had the choice (which we do), would you choose no trouble at all? Or are there some challenges you wouldn’t opt out of?

That spotlight is a powerful way to call in even more fabulous unfoldings.

In fact, after we share our favorite ways of leveraging the law of attraction in 2009, let’s add our top “up and coming” manifestations for the new year!

I’ll start:

Money Mojo
I really liked what happened with the Money Mojo group in July! I had intended a couple of things for it, including (direct quotes from my personal Intentions Journal):

a mind-blowing money course

huge influx of easy money

100% rate of honoring the gut

more enjoyment of life

money course is a life-changing hit!

a crowning glory of a group event

And sure enough, it blew my mind. (Maybe I should have specified I wanted to blow your minds, huh? That’s what I was actually thinking, although I liked being on the receiving end!)

I followed guidance that led me to offer it as a pay what you want, when you want, if you want course, which I’d never done before. (And didn’t know anyone who successfully had.)

I also followed guidance that said give everyone else a chance to share their gifts with the group. And my word, did you deliver! (Goosebumps!!) You guys were amazingly generous and brilliant in your offerings to the group!

I curbed embedded thoughts that said I wouldn’t make nearly as much money with this format. And I netted nearly double my normal revenue for a group course. (That’s saying something, folks.)

We had an absolute blast together as many of you wrote several times throughout the course and later on. (In fact, I’m still getting appreciative emails, stories and payments from participants!)

And it led to my realization that you guys need a venue, a way to share your wisdom in a bigger way than this blog allows.

Which leads to my favorite manifestation of 2010: Good Vibe University.

I intend this one is gonna knock all our socks off, in the best ways.

:)

I had other favorites throughout the year, and will share those in the comments, but let’s hear yours first.

What were your favorite manifestations of 2009?

Getting out of a speeding ticket? A compliment from the stingy boss? Did you meet the love of your life? Move into the house or city you’ve been dreaming about?

Let’s hear what creations you loved last year! (And what you’re intending to love in 2010.) Here are a few pasted from early responders’ comments:

Inspiring experience shared by Tiffany:

My favorite manifestation of the year was this deep, intuitive connection I’ve fostered with God and myself! I mean I’ve never felt more connected to the me that’s in the vortex. The excitement for life, courage to imagine my dreams, and undying determination to reach for the best thought I got in 2009 is by FAR the best manifestation.

And from our dear Iyabo:

I manifested some pretty amazing clients in 2009, an amazing business and lifestyle that I cannot wait to get up in the morning and get to, the most awesome “downloads” and “pop-ups” in my lovely brain every day, a surprise trip to New York City to see a Broadway play, a new car, a nice settlement with Uncle Sam. Boy, the more I write, the better it gets!

A fun entry from Leah:

I manifested tons of clients and from YOUR lead, I asked for (and got) great buyers and sellers! I never advertised and never needed to! That was great for a realtors first year. My managing broker took me to the side during the Christmas party to tell me “just keep doing what you are doing, kid. Some of the full time agents didn’t make as much as you… ”

Money poured in and I have already reset my vibration for new clients in 2010…

And thanks to Sherelle for adding to the party with:

I manifested
-a flexible, supportive job.
-more health and confidence to take risks in my career
-a fantastic relationship
-a trip to Mexico and a fun-filled summer
-more time with family

Thanks, ladies! Click on comments for more fabulous manifestations from the Good Vibe community in 2009 …

Like the birthplace for other blog subjects, this is one that’s come up several times the past couple days. I know if a few folks are wondering enough to ask about it, there are more who will benefit as well.

Without further ado – here’s how to get more (or better) sex.

(Which also applies for how to get more of whatever you want, be it money, success, a house, better body, etc. But this is written specifically for the person who wants more sex.)

Here we go:

First of all, my friend, stop noticing the sex you’re not getting.

Stop giving attention to how you wish you had more.

Stop complaining about how little you’re getting and telling the story about how bad your sex life is.

In fact, stop believing you’re not getting as much sex as you want.

Yes, I know you’re justified in thinking and saying and believing what you’ve been thinking, telling and believing. But that is NOT helping you get more sex.

It’s actually doing the exact opposite.

As you speak (and think) it, so shall it be.

So you’ve got to start appreciating your sex life.

However you can accomplish that.

You’ve got to love the sex you are having. You’ve got to tell the story about how great your sex life is. (Especially to your partner!) You want to be the person who is enjoying all the fabulous sex they want.

Whether you’re remembering or imagining or however you can get to thoughts of appreciation about lots of great sex, that’s what you want to get in mind.

Would you talk different? Smile more? How would you behave differently?

However you would be when you’re sexually satisfied, start being that way now.

Whether that’s relaxed, happy, satisfied, content – or whatever it would be for you – start feeling that way and being that person NOW.

If you have a partner, you’ll become more attractive to him/her. If you don’t yet have a partner, you’ll still be more attractive to him/her – whoever it turns out to be.

And I’m not talking physically attractive – I mean energetically attractive.

Since like attracts like, as you become the person who has a great sex life (even before you have one), you will attract a great sex life.

One of the stories I didn’t tell in my Adventures in Manifesting ebook - even though it’s chock full of real world examples from my love life – was how my boyfriend noticed my manifesting success in getting foster dogs adopted, to which he responded by promptly using this magical new power to manifest more sex! (What a quick study he was.)

So having been on the other side of this manifestation, I know how easy and effective it is to work on someone.

The trick (for the one doing the manifesting) is to not get caught up in the “reality” of what is.

Find some way to get your attention on what you want, rather than what is.

For Pam (not her real name), that means she’s got to stop telling co-workers and friends about her husband’s challenges in the bedroom. She’s got to appreciate what is working, even if it’s just that he’s great aabout public displays of affection – which she loves.

For Scott (not his real name), that means he’s got to stop thinking of his wife as a woman who has no interest in sex. Instead, he’ll want to see her differently – maybe as a woman who is waking up to new heights of sexual desire – with him in particular (that could be an important element to include). Or whatever story would help make it believable that things are changing romantically. He’ll also want to start treating her the way he would treat a woman who he is enjoying lots of highly satisfying sexual activity with.

For Sue and Matt (not their real names), who don’t have any partners in sight and are tired of being celibate, they should know they cannot attract a great love life while upset about not having one. It just doesn’t work that way.

You’ve got to find a way to feel better now, whether that’s by entertaining rich fantasies, purposefully appreciating the sex you are having, or by getting your mind on something else that is satisfying. Whatever inspires you to shift the vibe – that’s what you want to engage.

Change the way you feel now, without expecting your new love life to make you feel better.

And to anyone who feels stymied in getting what they want, it helps tremendously to take the pressure off this thing you want for making you happy. When you make it out to be a big deal, especially a big deal that you’re not experiencing, it closes the door on it.

You’ve got to find ways to feel better now, even before it gets here – even if it NEVER gets here – in order to allow it in.

I know it’s a funky way to get what you want, but it works.

It’s also worth mentioning, even though I know many of you likely won’t believe me, that it isn’t really more sex you want. What you really want is how you think having that amazing sex life is going to make you feel.

If anyone cares to share thoughts on the topic, I know it’d be a huge benefit to many who are wondering about all this!

A couple years ago fellow coach Tom shared a story he heard from Eckhart Tolle that went something like this:

It’s as if you are an apartment building, with lots of doors and windows. It’s through your open doors and windows that the Universe delivers the goods you’ve been asking for.

The challenge is that most of us have many of our doors and windows closed up.

For example, Tolle suggested, when it comes to Money, most of us have all our doors and windows locked up tight, except for one – cracked open just an inch or two – which we call our JOB.

The point being that our belief system doesn’t allow most of us to receive as much money as we could be, as easily as we could be.

So all Universe has to work with is a couple of inches. It has to try to squeeze through all the money we’ve been desiring through this one barely open window. When instead, if we had all our doors and windows wide open, money (and everything else we want) could quickly and easily flow in!

I’ve found through work with clients, and even in myself at times, that if we don’t see “how” money could come to us, we’re stumped in being able to believe it will.

For that reason, I’d like us to open some doors and windows right now by sharing here all the different ways we know, believe, and imagine money could flow into one’s life. Please share your story about how money came into your world unexpectedly or unusually!

I’ll start a short list here, and will add to it based on your comments.

(Don’t worry about reading all the comments to see if someone else already posted yours – repeats are great!!)

Here are a few of my favorite stories about money coming in effortlessly through wide open windows besides the J-O-B one:

After intending more money into his pocket, a client’s mother asked him to read a letter she just received from the Department of Unclaimed Property. It was alerting her that there was a balance due to her, but she had to complete paperwork in order to claim it. She told her son if he would do the paperwork, he could keep whatever came from it. He deposited a check for over $6,000 shortly afterward!

It actually used to be my J-O-B to notify people that they had a balance in a 401k plan that we needed to distribute to them (by law). More often than not, they had totally forgotten or never even knew they had any money in the plan. Those were fun letters to send and checks to cut!

One of my clients is masterful at attracting investors to his coaching business. Most coaches don’t grow their business with someone else’s money, but he has been offered three different (five figure) investments by various people who wanted to support him in his impactful work.

Friend and fellow coach Michele just tweeted yesterday while talking to the IRS that instead of owing them money, it turns out they owe her money! Way to go, Michele!

Those of you who have worked with me have heard my story about intending effortless easy money, only to discover weeks later that my bank balance was mysteriously higher than it should have been. Repeatedly. Even after letting the bank know there was a mistake, the process continued. Between $100 and $200 every five or six weeks would mysteriously appear. Couldn’t see the deposit, couldn’t see where I was off in my reconciliation (and I was a CFP – I knew how to reconcile). Eventually I gave up trying to balance my checkbook, so for all I know it’s still happening!

Okay, I’m turning this party over to you!

Let’s hear ways money comes to us besides our jobs, as well as some of your favorite real life stories where it’s happened to you or someone you know.

Remember, repeat examples are great. When it comes to opening up doors and windows that we’ve had closed, repetition helps! (As might re-reading Vibrating Money In or playing with the Money Mantra.)

And if you’re thinking this is the post you need to read rather than contribute to, I invite you to rethink. We get what we put out, so if you feel particularly ready to let some money in, the best thing you could do is get in alignment with it by recalling a time it’s happened to you!

Here’s to recognizing money for what it is in our lives: whatever we choose it to be.
