Evolution of an Affirmation

I Say the Words: Evolution of an AffirmationI say the words and they feel ridiculous. Impossible even.

But I know how this works …
I keep saying the words.

I say the words and they feel far away.
I keep saying the words.

I say the words and my gremlin tells why it can’t be so; why this can only end in disappointment.
I keep saying the words.

I say the words and they begin to feel familiar. I’m getting used to the idea.
I keep saying the words.

I say the words and they start to feel possible. Belief is taking root.
I keep saying the words.

I say the words and they feel within reach. This might happen.
I keep saying the words.

I say the words and they begin to animate my being. The words come to life within me.
I keep saying the words.

I say the words and they’re no longer just words. They’re an energy that fulfills itself.
I keep saying the words.

I say the words and they are what is. These words are serving me well.
I keep saying the words.

Until one day, I find new words.
They feel ridiculous. Impossible even.

I keep saying the words.

The above little ditty is what came to mind after Michel Marcellot wrote these wise words on my facebook page:

Telling ourselves a different story is not a simple as it sounds. That story has to become the background software, the underlying theme song to our lives. Not just the conscious voice over.

In my view this is what controls the manifesting mechanism.

Miche asked: “How do we get the new story to percolate down through the conscious to the subconscious?”

This is one way I do it. I keep saying the words.

How do you make a new story the underlying theme song in your life?

    Hi Jeannette!
I’m very new to LOA and I find it very interesting and I feel like I’ve finally found answers to the “big questions”.
I have already seen some amazing results even if now and then. Actually I started to notice how the LOA works even before I had ever heard about it!
I have a question for you: praying makes me feel very well and as I am Italian I have prayed in Italian all my life (I’m 51). Now I live in New Zealand and speak English every day. Prayers in English do not have the same effect on me than the prayers in Italian. Can you explain this to me please? I usually do affirmation in English as it sounds better. Maybe because I discovered affirmation through Loise Hay in English..
    Thank you very much!

    • Jeannette says:

Good question, Eleonora. I’ve wondered the same thing about mantras in Sanskrit … can they really be effective when I don’t truly understand what they mean? But I’ve been told that there are so many people who’ve added to the power of them over the centuries of repetition that one who uses it is tapping into that collective energy. Even if it’s not my natal language.
I wondered if your Italian prayers are more effective than your English prayers because it has a stronger meaning for you in your native language?
Regardless, your experience is telling you what works best, so I would honor that! 🙂

      • Eleonora says:

        Hi Jannette,
        thank you for your reply!
I definetly think that my prayers in Italian are more effective because through the years I have given the sound of the words a stromg meaning. This is probably why I feel them more effective. When for a year and a half I joined a Buddhist group we used to recite prayers in Japanese (I couldn’t understand a single word) I was told that not understanding doesn’t affect the effectiveness of the prayers because is the sound that “makes them work”.
I also wish to thank you for your blog, it is very inspiring and helpful!

  • Jeannette says:

David, I love these words you shared, “the journey itself is sweet.” I aspire to remember and feel that more consistently!
Thanks for chiming in on this one. 🙂

  • David says:

Many thanks for this wonderful, uplifting blog!
One of the most powerful revelations for me has been the fact that I was born not only a Magnificent Creation among Creations, but a Creating Being. As such,I have been creating my own reality ever since. The energy I have sent out emanated from my belief systems about myself, my world and those around me, some good but much negative. Once the truth settled into my heart however, the switch turned on. What is sent out is what comes back to me from Universe; I have the power of choice as to what I send out. Choosing only those things that bring joy, express love and satisfy my deepest desires rather than the opposite was easy to do. (I tried the opposite and didn’t like the results!) And while I wait in full expectation for the physical manifestation of some of those things, almost immediately I began to experience a joy, happiness, gratitude, peace, contentment and enthusiasm for life that I have not known for many years. Being now in mid-sixties I can truthfully say that my life is brighter and more fulfilling than it has been in memory. Now, the potential and possibilities are limitless!
While I wait in full expectation for Universe to manifest my desires, the journey itself is sweet and the reality is that I am already living in what I ask for. You see, this is the world I am creating.
It is in acknowledging, accepting and affirming the truth about who and what I am that this change is happening. The LOA is real!
Thank you very much for being such a positive force in helping us all come to that truth and making it our own!

  • Jeannette says:

Now that’s powerful alignment, Quotes! And yes indeed, it does require commitment. So much fun to play with, though!

  • Quotes says:

i know that changing anything is hard, much more changing someone’s mind, or attitude towards his whole life, looking at things different in the future to me means looking at the past with different eyes. one way i changed my way a long time ago was to assume the features of the person i want to be. it is not as easy as it sounds, first you have to imagine the kind of person you would like to be, your values, your weaknesses, your strenghs, your attraction, the attractive part of your story, then you look back at your life and integrate your history with the person you want to be, somehow makes part of it, and next, you make a very big commitment that from now on, whenever you are in a “icky” situation, you would ask yourself “what would my character’s reaction be?” and you do it. you don’t pustpone it, your don’t delay it, you become the person in your mind everyday, and it almost drifts away from what you used to be.

Thanks for the acknowledgment Jeannette =)
I liked Brian’s response as well, it was really on point.

  • Jeannette says:

Just wanted to pop in and say THANK YOU to Namaste and Brian for their excellent input on Mia’s excellent question.
You guys are the best! 🙂

  • Brian says:

Mia: “I’ve tried affirmations (yet again) the past couple of weeks and the more I say them, the more they do NOT seem to work for me: I get frustrated, I get furious, I get bored – I get even more resistant. Now what does that mean, I wonder? :)”
If you say affirmations, and they do not feel good when you say them, then all that means is you’re trying to make too far of a jump from the vibrational gap of where you are, to where you want to be. Basically, you’re trying to believe something you don’t believe.
For example, if you feel you do not have enough money, and you say, “I have plenty of money” and that does not feel good, then you’re trying to make too big of a leap with your vibration. Instead, choose a thought that is easier to believe and feels good when you think about it.
“I may not have the money I want right now, but it is coming. I like the idea of abundance. I like the idea of money flowing in. I like the idea that money is energy, and energy is abundant. I want to feel abundant. I like the feeling of abundance. I want to feel ease. I want to feel relaxed with money. I want to feel free. I want to feel freedom.”
Those are all general statements about money, and so they can help you to feel good when you think them.
Mia: “Do I still need to keep saying the words … I wonder, how long it will take me to see some results?”
When you say results, are you talking about physical manifestation results or emotional manifestation results? Because, you receive emotional manifestation results instantly. And that’s the goal.
You want to do affirmations because they help you feel better, not to make anything happen. When you do them in an efforting way to make something happen, you just introduce resistance. When you do affirmations for the reason of finding relief, and feeling good, then you are allowing what you want to be received by you.

  • Angela says:

    I absolutely love this!!

  • Jeannette says:

What a great example of engaging a big affirmation, Namaste! Thanks for that success story!

  • Namaste says:

    Great post Jeannette!
Reminds me of a story I heard years ago of a woman repeating, “I make a $100,000 a year” over and over and over again. She started doing this at the beginning of a new year. Initially it felt impossible, then it began to seem reasonable, and by the end of the year she believed it. A short time later she was actually making six figures (which if I remember the story right was way beyond anything she’d earned previously).

  • Jeannette says:

Mia, if I had that sort of story/experience going, I would probably turn to pictures instead.

  • Mia says:

I’ve tried affirmations (yet again) the past couple of weeks and the more I say them, the more they do NOT seem to work for me: I get frustrated, I get furious, I get bored – I get even more resistant. Now what does that mean, I wonder? 🙂 Do I still need to keep saying the words … I wonder, how long it will take me to see some results?

  • Of course, you know I’d love this topic and your great poem, Jeannette.
Add some rocket fuel by FEELING the feeling of the result while you keep saying the words!
    Many blessings,

  • Jeannette says:

“push past the resistance” – that’s very true, Melanie and also very interesting based on the conversation you and I had at GVU today.
But being willing to find the frequency of the desired reality despite LOA’s tendency to bring us more of the same of our current reality is really the trick here.
Thanks for chiming in, my friend. 🙂

  • OMSquee! This is fantastic. I need a direct download of this daily into my brain. What an eye opener – you have to keep telling the new story until you push past that resistance. Until it begins to “animate your being.” YES!

  • Jeannette says:

That is so cool, Chris! Cool that you thought of it and cool you know how to make your own gifs!
Thanks for sharing such a unique and brilliant idea with us. 🙂

  • Hey Jeanette,
I love the metaphor of your new story becoming your background software. I’ve recently been experimenting with automating my affirmations. What I do is that I download a .gif maker (you’ve probably seen gifs of adorable animals and such all over the internet) and then put my affirmations into a .gif that loops. I put this loop of positive words into the top right corner of my desktop and let it constantly play all day.
I’ve been doing this for months. I don’t really think about it consciously anymore, I just know it’s there. But I have seen some wonderful habit shifts.

  • Jeannette says:

I’m a brilliant coach in high demand.
I am a confident, brilliant, beautiful woman in the prime of her life, rocking out her mission and having a blast doing it.
I’m a seven figure business owner inspiring conscious creators to their highest success.
I make money while I sleep.
The more I goof off, the more money I make.
    I’m the best there is.
These are some of the words I’ve played with. They have been very good to me!
