How You Feel Now = How You’ll Feel Then

The single indicator of how you will feel when you get what you want is how you feel right now.Christy Lambert has guest posted here before, but this might be my favorite post she’s ever written.

For those of us who sometimes think we’ll feel better once we manifest our desires, Christy explains why that’s not going to work out so well. Enjoy this tidbit of manifesting enlightenment:

If you’re feeling like there’s not enough right now, chances are when you reach your goals, it will still feel like there’s “not enough.” Which pretty much sucks.

The only way to get to true abundance is through abundance – which doesn’t mean there isn’t value in simply having money and reaching your goals. I’m a big believer in having money. I’m an even bigger believer in having money in way that actually feels good, and supports your overall happiness and wellbeing.

– Christy Lambert, Radical Abundance

It’s easy to get into the habit of thinking that our lives will be better and we’ll be happier once we reach a certain goal. But in reality, what ultimately ends up shaping the experience of your life is how you choose to feel as you move towards your goals.

This is good news! It means you can start experiencing more joy, freedom, connection or whatever else you want to experience right now. You don’t have to wait for something to happen. You can choose happiness today.

Try this exercise:

Take a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle.

On the left hand side make a list of 25 things you want in your life. It can be anything from a new job to a pool to having your debt paid off.

Then on the right side, write down how you think having this thing will make you feel.

Here’s an example:

  • More travel = Free, inspired, educated
  • Pool = Reflective, fun, relaxed
  • Debt paid off = Secure, free

Once you’re done with both lists notice if any themes come up. This exercise  gives you insight into what you’re most craving in your life. For me it’s typically a mix of freedom, security, inspiration & joy.

Now here’s where it gets fun – you can choose to experience these emotions right now. Today. Before you change anything about your life. You can do that a few different ways:

1) consciously choose to take a specific action each day that will generate the feeling you want.

2) take time to reflect on all the ways you already have the feeling you want available to you. For example, notice five ways you are already secure. What are five ways relaxation is available to you now?

Don’t wait until you reach your goals to feel good. Choose to feel good today.  You are 100% responsible for creating the life and the feelings you want to experience.

It’s your turn! Do the exercise above and share on the blog one feeling you want to experience and one example of how that feeling is available to you right now.

  • Nice resource, thanks for posting it here, Doaa. And I love your clarity about knowing your work is to activate the vibrations of stability and growth! (Which could seem contradictory at first glance, but so fun to play with!)

Oh and here’s a lovely links for positive affirmations that can always gets me in the right good mood 😉

  • Doaa K. says:

This is a wonderful exercise, thanks Jeannette and Christy! I had 12 things i wanted to do; it seems that all my needs branch from a basic desire for stability and growth. I will work on that, with easier more reachable daily rituals for the time being 😉

Thank you so much for this Christy, I shared it with my partner to whom I am so Greatful for, this kind of reminds me of the story of Narcissus in the book “The Alchemist” , all we are ,are reflections of what we want in life the sooner everyone realises that , the easier it would be for us to manifest the things / feelings we want in our daily lives…beautiful

  • Excellent point, Christy! The Universe is always mirroring back the energy we are sending out. Thanks for sharing your post with the GV crew.
    Many blessings,

  • With a vibe like that, Susann, no doubt LOA is lovin’ you right back!
Kudos to you for rockin out your manifesting skills! 🙂

Wow. This couldn’t have come at a better time. I spent most of 2013 focused on “freedom” — getting myself free of a bunch of stuff I didn’t want in my life any more. I quit my job, retired, moved.
Lots of good changes, and I’ve been busy. But I’ve been thinking lately that I’ve been coasting for the last couple of months, and I need to spend some time figuring out what’s “next”.
I decided last Sunday to take this whole week to do just that. And the Universe, with its usual magnificent timing, brought me this post. OK, so it might be useful to a bunch of other people, too. But seriously? It was obviously meant just for me 🙂 Gosh, ya gotta love LOA!

  • Christy says:

It amazes me how the themes show up. And how sometimes they’re the same and sometimes they shift. My big theme right now is engaged. Guess it’s time to practice really engaging in and being present with everything I’m doing.

  • First of all, I could only think of four things that I wanted. (Is that lame, or kind of cool that I already have so much of what I want?)
But three of my four things: senior dog rescue center, six figure months, positive impact on others, and a healthier body – had “worthy” in common. That was a surprise for me to see, especially considering all the worthiness work I’ve done.
I know what my next step is. 🙂
    Thanks for the enlightenment, Christy!
