The Words That Changed My Life

how to use affirmations and mantrasDo you ever get embarrassed when strangers (or even friends and family) walk through your house and see your strategically placed written mantras?

(We all have them, right?  On the bathroom mirror, the refrigerator, the office bulletin board, etc.?)

I used to be so self-conscious of them that I’d actually take them down before the Comcast rep showed up or the dishwasher installation guy arrived.

But last week when the carpet installers came over, I let my affirmations fly loud and proud.

Because after all, these words have brought magic into my life.  They’ve delivered so many good things that I can’t even pretend to be embarrassed about using them any more.

If you were standing in my office now, here’s what you’d see on multicolored sticky notes:

  • I make money like magic.
  • I am a highly paid highly respected business owner.
  • (that one above used to be: “I am a brilliant coach in high demand.”)
  • You can prove anything!
  • Thank you.  I love you.
  • It gets easier and easier.
  • The system is set up for my success.
  • We’ve got it made!
  • The Universe is good to me.
  • Holy sh*t, I make a lot of money!
  • I am having the time of my life.

That’s just a sampling of “spells” from my office board that have brought enormous amounts of deliciousness to real life.

But it isn’t just the written words that work magic in my world.  It’s the spoken ones, too … the ones I’ve repeated myself, and the ones others have spoken to me.

Like when someone tells me I’ve got a crazy idea that will never work, my standby response is, “Oh yeah? Watch me.”

Or when my inner gremlin tells me that’ll never work, I say, “Hey, stranger things have happened!”

Or when coach Jeanna Gabellini told me that even a sucky coach could get ten clients, those words were a LIFELINE to me when I doubted my own ability to succeed.

The words we speak and think and repeat over and over are literally creating the world around us.

What are the words you’re using to create your world?

If it’s time for an upgrade to what you’re speaking into reality, start now by:

  1. jotting an inspiring phrase or declaration on a sticky note
  2. post it where you’ll see it
  3. and watch it make its way into your world.  They’re sneaky that way.  😉

If you’ve got words that have created magic in your life, we’d love to hear them in the comments below!

LOL, I got a good laugh from this one. I’ve been trying to think, and I’m pretty sure I DID take down my vision board when the tv guys came to install a new service.
You are totally right, Jeannette, we should live our truth, no matter how it looks to others.
But also, I think we have to be sensitive to the vibe those post its are generating for us. For me, I found they were starting to feel resistant rather than allowing, so mine are all gone, for the moment, anyway!

  • Yes, GorgeouSophie is most definitely NOT anonymous! 🙂
Stacy, I gotta say, that one is still working really well for me. Anytime I can get a swear word in one, it seems to really serve. lol
And Mary, what a beautiful way to use your power. Thanks for sharing.

  • MarySmiling says:

I have been afraid that being successful will incur the jealousy/resentment of others, so my new post-it reads: People Love Me for My Successes and Wish Me Every Happiness!

  • Matt OGrady says:

    Holy Shit thats funny! 🙂

  • I think I’ve mentioned that one of my favorite affirmations that you’ve mentioned is the “Holy sh*t, I make a lot of money!” one.
My friend called me last night to say that Conan was saying there was a study and rich people cussed more than not so wealthy people. He said it was because wealthy people were constantly saying “Holy sh*t, I’m rich!”
We both thought of your affirmation and I thought you’d get a kick out of that joke.

  • Gorgeousophie says:

I am not Anonymous, I am gorgeousophie!

  • Anonymous says:

Too funny! I – very fleetingly – thought about it the other day, especially as mine tell my name and surname and add ‘I am very proud of you’ and the dude who was visiting is not close to me at all + am utterly convinced he may have also gone ‘okaaaaaaaaaaaaay’ but then yes, too much hard work and why try to ingratiate myself by appearing normal? Still, I do not notice them any longer thus time to freshen up and bring new ones too! Thank you!

  • That’s what I was just thinking, Bliss! “You won’t be laughing or rolling your eyes when he shows up!” ha

  • Bliss W says:

Haha very funny! And very, very true. I once wrote a love letter from my future lover and had it on my bedroom wall, and someone was like “So…you wrote that? That’s a little strange…”
But what do you know? It worked!! And that’s what matters most to conscious creators in the long run 😉

  • Jacqui & Michelle – I love when we get comfortable letting our affirmations live in the world for others to see.
And JG, I like that version, too! ha

  • JG. says:

Instead of reading “It gets easier and easier”, I read: “I get easier and easier”. I guess this is a pretty good affirmation!…

  • Jeannette, I laughed because I used to hide my affirmation post-its, too! Then, all my affirmations worked so well that we have a cleaning lady here twice a week & mommy helpers, plus all the people in and out of my office at the heating and cooling business. I had to quit hiding them, it was too much work! Most people are intrigued by them and if they think I’m crazy, who cares. I love so many of your affirmations. One of my favorites is “the universe loves to spoil me.” I need to update and put some new ones up! 🙂

  • Ok this really hit home, because despite all the mantras I have written in my journal and that I repeat to myself daily, I have never had the courage to put them on notes around the house.
I’ve read this advice countless times but have always felt that it would be too vulnerable and embarrassing to have my ambitions and desires plastered all round the family estate.
But having read all these success stories, I think it’s time to put my discomfort aside.
After all, the family will benefit too when the lusciousness starts rolling in!

  • “Got Faith?” – love that one, Matt!! And Alice, what a smart way to sneak our words into more places in our lives and our brains. You guys rock!

  • Alice says:

I have the word affluence as the back ground on my cell phone and we all know how connected to our phones we are 🙂 and for about 12 years I have used the word retire55 on just about anything I can its my dream to retire at 55 and I guess we shall see this year if the universe has been listening 🙂

  • Matt O'Grady says:

You are too funny! Yup, loads of ’em…
“All is Well and getting Weller All the Time!”
“Remember to have fun, Do it Your Way!”
“To He that hath, more will be given”
    “Have you Happy Danced Today?”
    “What are you Vibrating?!”
“If thou can believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”
    “Got Faith?”
    “Who are you right Now?”
And oh so many more! 🙂 Nope, never hid them but did feel really vulnerable when someone who I was not close with saw them, my nanny was one, I think she was like “Okaaaaaaay” hehe but she never said anything….
Yeah, I am with you, Jeannette. I am working on an LOA Business Affirmation project and I was just telling someone today how important, these mantras, affirmations, self talk etc are to me. They are a big part of my daily inner and outer life. To me, they are sacred, divine, they are true and beautiful.
As usual with your posts, you shot a bullseye! 🙂

  • Yay for getting over it, Robinvk! Love that! (And think how many others you’re inspiring as well!)
Oh yes, Julie, I’m a big fan of that fun=money affirmation – woo hoo!

  • julie masters says:

I used to hide mine too! LOL But not any more!! Now I have affirmations all over the place, and an entire wall covered with photos and cards etc., of people, places, and things that my affirmations have helped manifest! 🙂
My favorite is still, “The more fun I have, the more money I make!” I also have, “I am a highly paid, life changing, conversationalist”, and “Everything is in divine and perfect order right now”.
    Ease and flow,
    Julie Masters

  • Robinvk says:

My desk at work is covered with Abrahamisms, lyrics from the National (give Mr. November a listen for energetic inspiration!) and quotes from the Little Prince. I used to be skittish about other seeing them but realized i was putting big limitations on my plans…. I got over it. Guaranteed, a trip to my desk is fun, interesting and keeps others curious as to what i am up to! 🙂

  • Barbara, I love the evidence of how well yours are working for you! woo hoo!!
And maia, thanks for posting the ones Marc uses. His story is so inspiring of how that unfolded in his life.

  • maia says:

I like these words from Marc Allen: “in an easy and relaxed way, in a healthy & positive manner, for the good of all and with perfect timing.” This is my go-to mantra for most any situation, especially when I wake up in the night with the 3AM anxiety.

  • maia says:

Totally inspiring and just what I needed to read this morning! Thank you.

  • BarbaraM says:

Previous week I had an epiphany (and I wrote about that also in the news for people on my e-mailing list) that all things, which I placed on the walls in my flat came through. I have several stickers saying “fun & easy”. I have one of my paintings which I titled “Oneness” and another which is titled “Clarity”. So I have total clarity now what I want to do – supporting people to live better lives and helping them recognized how powerful creators they are. I am happy to get my fingers into Access Consciousness and Access BArs which are bring so much fun and ease in my life – I am teaching Access Bars classes. Access Consciousness as set of techniques and verbal processing in helping people to overcome duality and invites them to operate from oneness. My life is getting easier and easier, not to mention how much fun I have with classes, creating my new programs, products and recognizing that the whole life is a BIG game. And now is the time to put some more stickers on the wall. 🙂
Btw. in the past I was removing them as well, but now I leave them on the walls loud and proud 😀 maybe somebody will learn something from them 🙂

  • You guys have got some POWERFUL words working for you! Thanks for sharing them here!

  • Stephen says:

I keep a dry erase marker in the bathroom to write on the mirror. Two of my favorites are:
“Who do you want to be today?”
“No matter what else I want, what is now is pretty damn good!”

  • Lynda Ashley says:

I always say: “I have the amazing ability to find fabulous places to live for not much money”. And guess what?…….:)
I also say, “I can sell anything” (and I usually do have great success at selling)!
Another: “People believe me”. They do.
My favorite: “I’m really too busy to get sick” and as a result I never get sick.

  • Sells Giant Sticky Notes!
I’ve got giant ones all over my house! Thanks for reminding me to update and keep using them! 😀
